1966, a first-class year for England; winning the prestigious world cup; and the formation of Hawkes Refrigeration Engineers as named after Martin Hawkes.

:: Our roots

Martin, his brother David and father Cyril Hawkes were the sole founders of our company back in 1966. David split away from the company and went into motor racing. Cyril later retired and Martin after about 8 years decided to take on a partner, Bernard Cameron, their determination as business associates and the long hours of dedicated hard work they invested has proven the foundation for our successful steady growth. Bernard sadly passed away in January 1990 Martin Hawkes is still very active in the day-to-day running of the company, his vast knowledge of the industry is still a resource we are very happy to draw upon, even today.

Hawkes Refrigeration Engineers have now grown into a well-known & reputable family business. Over the last 40 years our company has seen considerable changes in the refrigeration, air conditioning and ventilation industry. These changes have brought & continue to bring new challenges.

Our sales expertise are in the fields of commercial, industrial refrigeration, ventilation and air conditioning and the channelling of the expanding domestic air conditioning marketplace, with a full design and build service if required from one simple bedroom to the most complex office block.

Our expertise exerts in the design and technical understanding for VRF, VRV, split air conditioning, inverter driven heat recovery, portable air conditioning, humidification, dehumidification, air quality improvement, extraction, ventilation, chilled water, commercial catering equipment, retail merchandising refrigeration display cabinets, frozen food storage, BMS control systems and many other fields of refrigeration and air conditioning products for sales, advise, consultation, design, commissioning, installation, service and general planned maintenance. Being close too many of the other trades out there we are also able draw upon sub contractors to carry out CORGI registered gas works, architectural, building and many other types of services….Not sure? Our company has a dedicated programme of training & development for our engineers and technical sales staff. Hawkes Refrigeration Engineers employ trained high graded competent engineers/fitters, with young trainees being educated to our high standard, our philosophy to train the young ones is a soaring priority as we know the old and wise won’t be around forever! We don’t just leave it there either, Hawkes Refrigeration Engineers have a trained dedicated after sales team who offer complete planned preventative maintenance packages and full warranty backup for our quality sales and installations. 

Our experienced engineer’s have the knowledge & skills to get the job done efficiently, while offering you the peace of mind & confidence, this we believe is all part of our normal service. We are frequently updating the information passed on to our staff and provide training sessions for:

:: Industry standards

The safe handling of refrigerant gases has been a challenge for us over the last few years; however we can proudly say we are now fully affiliated members of REFCOM. We have strict control over the use and disposal of refrigerant gases and hold a registrar for full documentation of how, why, where and what the refrigerant gases have been used for.

We are now members of the NICEIC group. This allows us to certificate electrical installations carry out domestic works inline with the new part P regulations. The NICEIC inspectors carry out periodic checks throughout the year to ensure that our works are completed to the high standards they have set. Another success story for our dedicated electrical division.

Heating Ventilation Contractors Association Hawkes have been members of the HVCA organisation for some years now, we are subject to regular third-party inspection and assessments to ensure of our technical and commercial competence is met within our industry, government and EEC directives.

:: Environmental 

Our industry standards help us to keep in line with the safe observance of our global surroundings. Hawkes Refrigeration Engineers are registered for waste disposal of refrigerant gases and all our qualified engineers carry full ACRIB registered City & Guilds certificates for the safe handling of refrigerant gases we are also very keen to promote energy efficient equipment.
